Aeroplex / Aerolease Group Staff Successfully Completes Van Nuys Airport Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) Training
(Van Nuys, Calif., June 6, 2015) – Aeroplex/Aerolease Group—a leading aviation property development, management and consulting firm—is proud to announce its staff’s has successfully completed the Van Nuys Airport (VNY) sponsored Community Emergency Response Training (C.E.R.T.) in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles World Airports (L.A.W.A.).
Los Angeles C.E.R.T classes entail roughly 18 hours of training, once a week, for 7 weeks. Members are trained in basic disaster response skill such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. The course also includes education on how to prepare for emergencies, what supplies you should have in your home or workplace, how much food and water to have on reserve, and most importantly how to protect your family or coworkers.
“Airports become a huge center of triage and gathering in a large scale emergency or natural disaster,” said Aeroplex/Aerolease Group Operations and Project Manager Justin Castagna. “Our ability to be C.E.R.T. trained and fully prepared for any emergency event provides an immeasurable benefit, not only to the Airport, but our tenants and the other operations at the airport, and in the surrounding community.”
People often forget to realize that when a major disaster occurs, the Fire Department, Paramedics, and Police will likely not be deployed to anything other than the major incidents such as collapsed buildings or broken down bridges, like in the Northridge Earthquake in 1994. “The value of being C.E.R.T trained, is having the ability to provide basic first responder assistance to the community while waiting for the Emergency Response Crews to show up on site,” said Aeroplex/Aerolease Group Facilities Manager Ian Bell. The theme of C.E.R.T. is to do “The Greatest Good for the Greatest Number of People.”
We are very happy to be able to be an additional asset to the airport in those times of emergency and distress. Van Nuys Airport Chief of Operations, Flora Margheritis commented that “the benefit of having employees C.E.R.T certified, is that they become part of an invaluable volunteer cadre so that during an emergency event, they can be called on to support their organization and community. The value it brings to the airport boils down to preparedness; the better the employees are prepared, the better we can serve our airport and communities.”
